A TRIBUTE TO JOSEP PEP GUARDIOLA
A TRIBUTE TO JOSEP PEP GUARDIOLA
By qualification, I am a football coach but by practice, I am not! How can I call myself a coach when I am not even practicing the profession. is that even possible? I always like to watch a match after the match has been played. I hope you understand that. I do not watch a particular match because I want a particular team to win, I do so because I want to know why a particular team wins and how it goes about it.
Over the years, I have watched several teams play but I only enjoy watching. It was until 2009 that I started to watch the game after the match and guess who made that possible...Josep Pep Guardiola. He is an example of a pragmatic coach. If he were God, I would have called him a perfectionist.
When he was to be appointed as head coach of Barcelona FC, the club had another option in the person of Jose Mourinho but a certain Txiki Begiristain thought otherwise and because of this singular decision, the world was able to see the best of football coaching on the field.
Pep, as he popularly known as, started professional coaching in 2008 and between now and then, he has amassed a total of 18 trophies and he is looking to win more. He is the only man alive to have won a sextuple in a single season. Many argued that he had some genius in his side that made that possible but after 4 seasons with Barcelona FC, he took a sabbatical and came back in 2013 to tutor F.C Bayern. At Bayern, he won another 4 trophies to add to his 14 at Barcelona.
Some of these statistics may sound boring to the ear but such will be for a man that has tried to bring football to its rightful place.
HALA PEP!
